CHAPTER NINE
A GATHERING IN THE SKIES
The initial response to the Blue-Starâs speech was one of skepticism and disbelief. He seemed to offer no definite remedy for overcoming their problem. Few saw any comfort in his communication as the whole world was beginning to fall apart.
Who were they meant to ask for help, if not the politicians? And yet, there seemed to be a glimmer of hope in his address â a disguised hint of how they should respond. It was obvious they could not escape by normal means. There was nowhere they could hide. The Earth was heaving and shuddering beneath their feet, the volcanoes venting their anger at manâs misuse.
High above, in the Earthâs outer atmosphere, the star-ships of the Astar Galactic Command were gathering. Unbeknown to the panicking Terrestrials, the massive mother-ships of the Space Confederation were coming, ready to respond to the crisis.
The pressure outlets of the volcanoes, scattered around the globe, were insufficient to cope with the build-up of energy below the Earthâs crust. New volcanic islands were thrusting their way to the surface of the oceans, threatening to cause enormous tsunamis. The coastal regions of all continents would be devastated by the tidal surges. The pressure beneath the land-masses continued to rise, until extensive fiery fractures formed along the edges of the tectonic plates.
Whole sections of countries were shuddering. There was a danger of their breaking away from the main land-mass. The panic-stricken people could do little but cling to the convulsing Earth and cry out for help.
High above the Earth, the scout-ship pilots were entering their craft, preparing to scramble and head for the countries that were in imminent danger.
The people of Terra knew that only a miracle could save them now. Many of them who had heard the Presidentâs speech repeated his words over and over in their minds, searching for a hopeful message. They knew he was right. Neither he nor anyone else could stop natureâs destructive forces that were being unleashed. The seventh seal had been broken. The revelation of apocalypse was being realized. They remembered a previous speech that the President had made, when he had appealed to the masses to realign their energies to promote a healthier, more peaceful planet. He had said that it was not too late, that it was never too late.
While many were running around, trying to find refuge and safety from natureâs revenge, others saw the futility of trying to hide. With a gesture of resolve and acceptance they placed their finger-tips to their temples, as the Blue-Star had shown them, and sent telepathic cries for help into the ethers.
Aboard the orbiting confederate craft, the combined telepathic pleas from all sections of the planet were registered on the scanners of the Astar Galactic Command. The armada of space craft were waiting for that call, and they immediately started tracking the individual frequencies of those seeking help. They could have responded even sooner, but Cosmic Law demanded that they not interfere in the circumstances of any civilization without that civilizationâs express permission or request.
